The Dark Knight - The Joker

Do you sympathize with The Joker?

I do not sympathize with The Joker. He is an intimidating murderer and a cunning lawbreaker.

Firstly, it is because of the cruel, murderous and psychotic character of The Joker. He takes away the lives of people which is unacceptable as he does not have any right to do so, it is inhumane. For instance, he killed Lau aboard a cargo ship by burning him to death. He also straps two of his targets to explosives that will explode in a short period of time, leaving Batman to save them. Not only has he killed innocent lives, he uses vicious ways to kill them. The Joker also find pleasure in torturing and killing his victims. He basically views murder as leisure which any would strongly object to. He once also leaves the people of Gotham City with no choice but to destroy each other. These actions show and stress his murderous and maniacal character. Such an evil character simply does not deserve my sympathy.

Secondly, it is because he yearns for power and instills fear in the people of Gotham City. He threats the people of Gotham City in many different ways. To name a few, he orders the people of Gotham City that anyone left in the night would be under his control, which in other words, could be death. Also, The Joker had closed all tunnels and bridges otherwise a bomb would be set off by him. He was not of any proper status to create such laws without rhyme or reason and even threaten the people of the city. In order for batman to take off his mask and reveal his true identity, The Joker also broadcasts a video of him killing someone through the news and tells the people of Gotham City that someone would die every day lest Batman takes off his mask. He simply wants to gain control of Gotham City through violence and fear. He holds the stand that violence would solve all problems and for others to obey and follow him, fear has to be planted in them. Thus, this wrong thinking of his does not deserve my sympathy.

Last but not least, he commits serious crimes. At the start of the movie, he robs a bank and eventually kills every single one of his accomplices in a blink of an eye without hesitation, leaving the money robbed to him. This incident, too, highlights is greedy character. Furthermore, he destroys many public property and building, such as blowing up a hospital. Of course, not to forget is his sadistic murders. He has not only broken the law, but has taken away the innocent lives of others which by doing so, opposes moral ethics. In addition to his cunning and cruel methods in breaking the law and harming the people of Gotham City, these crimes can already define him as a threat to the people, a criminal with a black heart. Hence, there is no reason for me to sympathize such a lawbreaker.

In conclusion, I feel that The Joker is just a inhumane psychopath killer that does not deserve my sympathy. All of his actions are truly unforgivable. Nobody has the right to take away another's life. He is a serious threat to the city that once lived in peace only without his wrongdoings. Under his pressure, the people of Gotham City has no choice but to obey and abide to his rules of his cruel games in proving Batman wrong and this has caused many innocent lives to be harmed and taken away. Therefore, I do not sympathize with The Joker.

What have you learnt from this lesson?

From this lesson, I have learnt that every single person has a good and bad side in them. But there is always a choice in which side you want to represent yourself. There is also a chance to think through about your actions, good or bad, before doing them. Although you may excel in sports or studies, your actions do count. Also, I realised that a hero and a villain also does have similiar traits, but of course there are the distinct traits that tell them apart. A villain may be heroic at times, and a hero may have a bad side to him or her, too.

Last but not least, I have understood that first impressions do count! It is really the most important thing you want to leave on the other person. Another person can judge you by your actions, your speech or your appearance. However, it is important not to judge a person only by their first impression they leave you with. By understanding them more, you may start to realise their good or even bad traits. :D
